I CAN get other things to grow

These are Zinnias, which I grew from seeds. Last year they grew about 3-4 feet tall and attracted a lot of birds. We had a humming bird that kept coming back and they apparently aren't afraid of people! As we sat on the porch, the bird was an arms length away from us while we watched him eat!
The Hydrangia I rescued from the Target sale bin 2 years ago. It was pathetic looking but is doing very well in my garden!

Begonias that will grow big and fill out nicely in a few months.
The Bane of My Existence
As any gardner will tell you, getting stuff to grow is a great pleasure and is relaxing to look at after all of the hard work is done. However, I bring you the south side of my house where all I can get to grow there is WEEDS! D & I have tried several things such as ground cover, grass, and various shrubs, etc. to no avail. The !#$% weeds keep coming back.
So, now I'm launching yet another attempt to keep the weeds away. First I tried digging them out. This is how far I got:
Not very. You will not see the angry mob of ants that I unearthed which began crawling into my shoes and biting me. I also evicted about a half dozen spiders, one as creepy looking as the next. This is where I change strategy.
Now it's time to get out the big guns. Roundup. Yep, I sprayed Roundup on the whole dang thing. By this time tomorrow everything will be dead and I'll just cart it away and start anew. Love the Roundup!
