These are Zinnias, which I grew from seeds. Last year they grew about 3-4 feet tall and attracted a lot of birds. We had a humming bird that kept coming back and they apparently aren't afraid of people! As we sat on the porch, the bird was an arms length away from us while we watched him eat!
The Hydrangia I rescued from the Target sale bin 2 years ago. It was pathetic looking but is doing very well in my garden!
Begonias that will grow big and fill out nicely in a few months.

Looks good. We're working on our yard, too. When we moved in, the previous owners had planted nothing except two bushes, and one was dead. You are right, gardens are relaxing.
